March 8, 2011
CHAMPAIGN, Illinois (March 8, 2011) – For the Fire and Police Memorial, the evening of
Saturday March 5th was a very special night; it was the inaugural 'Taste of the Town' fundraiser
benefit for the group.
Sponsored by the Memorial, Taste of the Town saw 33 different vendors, including many local
restaurants and caterers, offering small bites of their cuisine to event goers. Caribbean Grill's
menu included its Jerk Chicken – complete with sweet and spicy Jerk Sauce.
The over 300 guests in attendance were encouraged to cast their votes for People's Choice
Awards in Best Starter, Best Entrée, Best International, and Best Dessert categories. Caribbean
Grill took home top honors in both the Best Entrée and Best International awards for
its Jerk Chicken.
When asked about the wins, Caribbean Grill Executive Chef and Owner Mike Harden said, "As
a chef and business owner, its great to be recognized in this way, and even more so for that
recognition to come directly from the people. Wanting to share my food with the people is why
The Taste of the Town event provided some valuable exposure to businesses like Harden's, as
he looks forward to growing his catering business and eventually opening a restaurant. "It was a
great opportunity to support the Fire and Police Memorial, as well as to reach a new audience
that I might not have touched before," says Harden.
